The SPOT Festival is not just a venue for hopeful and talented musicians, also the growth layer from within the music industry is making the trip to Aarhus. An example is the “German College Radio Summit” – which includes a meet-up between producers of college radios in Germany and the local station in Aarhus.

For the very first time the SPOT Festival will be hosting a German College Radio Summit. Since there is a free bus shuttle from Germany every year, editors at German college radios can catch a ride to SPOT Festival and get a first-hand taste of the Nordic music industry, together with a chance to discover new Nordic bands. They’ve realized this would be a great opportunity for a network meeting for the college radios in Germany. With editors from seven different stations, SPOT will host more German college radio visitors than ever before.

The SPOT tradition
Over the years the presence of German college radio stations at the SPOT Festival has become quite a huge tradition. Since there is a free bus shuttle from Germany every year, editors of German college radios enjoy the ride to SPOT Festival – enjoy getting a first hand taste of the music industry and having the chance to discover new Nordic bands. As a result the festival stands as an ideal setting for the exchange of experiences on how to run a successful radio station. Due to the large German turnout for the SPOT Festival, the venue provides the perfect atmosphere for this meeting. It also shows how important it is to promote young editors and help them gain a foothold in the industry.

The summit aims to promote mutual exchange and future cooperation between the radio stations, by dealing with with issues such as: How to choose new songs for rotation? How are playlists made? What is the best way of reporting from a festival? And how can college radios cooperate better in Germany? In addition, a meet-up with the local college radio station in Aarhus is planned, where it will be possible to exchange experiences on the common challenges – both as a radio station and as part of the growth layer of future players who want to make a career in the music business.
